Aquila Clean Energy and the Muelas del Pan Town Council sign an agreement for the restoration of the Cristo de San Esteban Chapel

—Aquila Clean Energy has also promoted training days for employment and environmental education aimed at the local population.

 

Madrid, 19 June 2024 - Aquila Clean Energy, a company that develops and operates renewable energy projects with a focus on solar, wind and battery energy storage, has signed a collaboration agreement with the Town Council of Muelas del Pan (Zamora) to restore the Ermita del Cristo de San Esteban.

Through this agreement, the company reinforces its commitment to Muelas del Pan, contributing to the rehabilitation of a space of special importance and heritage wealth for the community.

This agreement accompanies the development of the 100MW solar photovoltaic plant that Aquila Clean Energy is carrying out in the town in co-development with Euder Energy.

Luis Alberto Miguel, Mayor of Muelas del Pan, said: "We value the signing of this agreement with Aquila Clean Energy, which will enable a definitive restoration of the chapel. This commitment makes possible the restoration and conservation of an asset that is so dear to the hearts of our local residents". 

Juan Ignacio Pulgar, Head of Development for Aquila Clean Energy in Spain, said: "This agreement exemplifies the approach that we at Aquila Clean Energy take when promoting our projects, with the aim of making a positive contribution to the community. We hope to continue working hand in hand with the town council to provide solutions to the needs of Muelas del Pan". 

As part of the agreement, a joint monitoring committee will be set up to coordinate the restoration work planned by the town council, which will be responsible for the administrative management and maintenance of the chapel from June 2022.

In addition to the restoration of the chapel, Aquila Clean Energy has introduced various initiatives aimed at the social development of the region. These include training activities focused on employment opportunities for the inhabitants of the municipality and a series of environmental education workshops including a rubbish collection and recycling session in the area surrounding the Ricobayo Dam and another to plant trees on a plot of land at the CEIP Viriato school in Muelas del Pan.

Aquila Clean Energy is developing another 10 projects in the region, located in the provinces of Zamora, León, Soria, Palencia and Valladolid. The company’s projects in Castilla y León will have a total capacity of 778MW and will generate enough clean energy to supply around 380,000 homes.

Aquila Clean Energy has developed eight projects in Spain that are already operational. With a total capacity of 271 MW, they generate enough clean energy to supply a total of 114,000 Spanish households. The company is currently developing 52 plants that will reach more than 3GW of capacity.

Reflecting the good management of projects in the territory and the promotion of social and environmental measures, Aquila Clean Energy is the renewable energy company in Spain with the most UNEF Seals of Excellence for Sustainability. It has achieved this recognition for the environmental and social measures undertaken at seven of its projects.
