Madrid, November 16th 2022 – Aquila Clean Energy, which develops, realises and operates clean energy assets with a focus on solar and wind, and Axpo, the largest renewable energy producer in Switzerland and an international leader in the trading and marketing of solar and wind energy, have signed a set of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and an agreement for representation services for two photovoltaic plants located in Spain.
Under these PPAs, Aquila Clean Energy will provide Axpo Iberia with 100% renewable energy. At the same time, Axpo will provide representation services for the two photovoltaic plants.
The two solar parks, located in Almeria and Toledo, have a total installed capacity of 66MW and produce more than 120GWh of 100% clean energy per annum, the equivalent of the annual energy consumption of around 35,000 Spanish households. This energy will save more than 33,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, the equivalent of 19,240 cars on the road.
Marcos Domínguez, Head of Power Hedging and Research at Aquila Clean Energy for Iberia, said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with Axpo Iberia. The signing of these contracts further demonstrates our commitment to promoting the energy transition and reducing carbon emissions. We are very aware of the importance of these types of projects and plan to continue working robustly in this direction".
Ignacio Soneira, CEO of Axpo Iberia, said: "We are grateful for Aquila Clean Energy's trust in us to make a new renewable electricity generation project a reality on the Iberian Peninsula. With two decades of experience in PPAs, Axpo Group is now one of the major international players in this sector. It is present throughout the value chain and accompanies its customers from the moment energy is produced to its final consumption with short, medium and long term products. In the context of current market volatility, we offer intelligent solutions to maximise the value of each installation".
The two photovoltaic plants are part of a 3GW portfolio that Aquila Clean Energy manages in Spain, consisting of projects at different stages of development, construction and operation in various parts of the country.
