MADRID - Statkraft, Europe's largest renewable energy producer and market leader in PPAs, and Aquila Clean Energy, a company that develops and operates clean energy assets with a focus on solar and wind, have signed a new five-year renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA).
Aquila Clean Energy will supply Statkraft with the renewable production of the 50 MW Jaén solar photovoltaic plant, which will be commissioned in early 2023. The energy generated at this plant will be equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 24.000 Spanish households and will save around 24.600 tons in CO2 emissions (estimation for 2022).
This project is part of the portfolio of around 3 GW that Aquila Clean Energy manages in Spain, with projects under development, construction and operation in various parts of the country.
With this new agreement, Statkraft's renewable energy portfolio, one of the largest in Iberia, will supply customers in Spain and Portugal with around 1.3 GW of power. This will include production from wind and solar assets from different parts of Spain.
Marcos Domínguez, Aquila Clean Energy's Power Markets Director for Iberia, says: "The signing of this PPA strengthens our relationship with Statkraft, with whom we have worked closely previously, and demonstrates our common ambition to drive Spain's energy transition and bring clean energy closer to consumers. We look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future and contributing to a decarbonised economy.”
Simon Kornek, Statkraft's Vice President of Origination for Southern Europe, comments: “We are very pleased to once again collaborate with Aquila Capital, with whom we already have several agreements in different European countries. Despite the uncertainty and volatility, we are currently experiencing in the markets, agreements like this confirm that PPAs continue to be an important vehicle in supporting the build-out of additional subsidy-free renewable capacity.”
