Investment strategy

Hydropower Investments by Aquila Capital

Aquila Capital’s hydropower investment solutions are increasingly gaining the attention of institutional investors who are attracted by their long-term stable cash flows, low volatility and low correlation with traditional and renewable infrastructure assets. Hydropower is an efficient, low-cost and mature technology that benefits from a high conversion efficiency and if well maintained, can generate electricity for many decades, often for more than 100 years.

Aquila Capital has been an active investor in hydropower since 2009. Our dedicated hydropower team of industry and financial experts has built an extensive track record with a focus on combining well-founded technical expertise with comprehensive finance industry know-how and an ability to execute transactions successfully. To-date, we have acquired over 100 hydropower plants in Europe, giving us an edge in sourcing and securing hydropower opportunities for our institutional investors base. Thanks to an extensive sector network and long-standing relationships with market participants, Aquila Capital has built a robust portfolio and investment pipeline of operational European hydropower assets.

With the launch of the Aquila European Hydropower Fund1 earlier this year, Aquila Capital offers investors access to a balanced and diversified portfolio of European hydropower assets in a regulated fund structure that co-invests in hydropower assets with our partners, among which is Europe’s largest pension fund asset manager.
